St Michaels Mount
St Michaels Mount in Mounts Bay off
Penzance can be reached by way of a causeway at low tide or by
boat at other times. The Mount has been a priory ( established
1135), a fortress and a place of pilgrimage. During the civil war
it was held by forces loyal to the King but finally surrendered
to Parliamentary troops in April 1646. Ownership passed to the St
Aubyn family in 1659
