Chun Castle
Not far from Chun Quoit, at the top of a slight hill, lies Chun Castle. However it is much younger than the quoit, having been built around the third century BC. It was built entirely of stone. At one time the outer wall was as much as 10ft high and 7ft thick and the inner wall was perhaps 20ft high and up to 20ft thick. Sadly it is now much dilapidated. It is said that stone was taken from the fort to help build Madron workhouse and to pave some of the streets of Penzance. The photo is taken looking through one of the entrance gates. Beyond is the engine house at Ding Dong mine.
