Helston branch
The Helston branch of
the family are descended from Edward, the first child of Edward
and Annie. He was baptised at Breage Church on the 18th July
1697. He married Ann Carter on the 27th August 1719 (Edward's
name being recorded in the marriage register as Gonynan). Six
children have been identified as follows
Edward, baptised at Breage 28th Dec 1720 - married Christian
Thomas at Madron Church on the
15th June 1744 and Jane Canarton at Helston Church on the 4th
December 1756. No children have been traced.
Henry, baptised at Breage Church on the 29th Dec 1721. (see
below)
Elizabeth, baptised at Sithney Church on the 31st May 1726 -
married Edward Olivey at Madron Church on the 23rd Sept 1751
Sarah, baptised at Breage Church on the 28th Dec 1728 - married
Joseph Angove on the 7th Nov 1760
John, baptised at Breage Church on the 8th June 1731
Susanna, baptised at Helston Church on the 1st October 1733-
married Samuel Drew at Helston Church on the 26th June 1759
The line continues with Henry. He married Mary Rescrow at Helston
Church on the 2nd April 1748. His name was recorded as Geninnon.
Only one child has been found, a son, Henry, baptised at Helston
Church on the 25th Sept 1749.
This Henry married Ann Plemmin at Helston Church on the 14th Oct
1771 and they had five children all baptised at Helston:-
Mary 17th May 1772, Henry 16th Sept 1774, Edward 2nd Aug 1776,
Elizabeth 16th Jan 1778 and Edward 17th May 1780. In the 1841
census there is a Henry and Ann Goninan living in London - could
this be them?
The line continues with Edward who married Honor Martha at
Helston Church on the 27th Sept 1802. they had four children:-
Ann, baptised at Helston Church on the 15th Oct 1809
Henry baptised Helston Church on the 2nd Jan 1814
Edward baptised at Helston Church on the 16th Feb 1817
Edward baptised at Helston Church on the 31st Jan 1819
By this time the family name for the Helston branch is tending to
be recorded as Genninon or some variation of this.
Henry married Priscilla Bartle ( a widow) at Breage Church on the
6th April 1846 and they had two surviving children, Jane and Mary
Edward married Sophia Moyle at Helston Church on the 23rd Jan
1843 and they had five surviving children, Edward, Sophia Moyle,
Eliza Ann, Henry and Julia Ellen. We know that Henry was a miner
(at least at the time of the 1841 census) but Edward does not
seem to have been involved in mining. Edward and Sophia left
Cornwall and moved first to Wolverhampton and then Rotherham.
